Helping students across Southern

Arts Foundation (ID 95-4458697)
started its Computers2Schools program in August 2001 after founder
Chris Pflanzer noted his daughter's elementary school did not have
enough computers for teachers to incorporate technology into their
curriculums. Since education budgets did not allow for the purchase
of new computers, Chris sought alternate means of delivering technology
to the classroom.
As it turns out, thousands of computers
become obsolete every day in California, where the program got its
start. Although these computers are below the current standards
preferred in the corporate environment, many elementary and middle
schools can get by just fine with low-level Pentium-class computers,
so Chris began collecting corporate and individual castoffs to build
a lab at the elementary school.
Today, that school has 100 computers, including
a fully functioning lab big enough for the largest class on campus.
Other schools and kid-friendly organizations in southern California
have benefited from the program since that time, including daycare
centers, public and private schools, churches and at-risk youth
programs.
Our goal is to place computers in front
of students who otherwise might not have the chance to learn with
still-useable technology, but there are other benefits to our program.
For example, we encourage responsible computer recycling,
and dozens of student volunteers who help reassemble computers get
the hands-on experience they need to excel in technology fields.
So help us help the kids by donating your
old computers through one of our regular e-waste
recycling events held in a location near you, or sponsor
our events to help us bring more equipment back to life.
